As I snapped the shutter and spun the camera around for LeaAnne to see the first image of their engagement session, the look in her eye said it all. We were in a magical setting that looked straight out of a fairytale and she was thrilled. So was I! The cherry blossoms lining the Tidal Basin this year were absolutely striking.
LeaAnne and Danny moved here from Louisiana less than a year so this was their first spring in DC. It was really special to get to witness their first experience of this fleeting Washington landmark. Seeing her face when I showed her the back of the camera made me realize that my excitement actually matched hers! Living here all my life hasn’t dampened my enthusiasm for the cherry blossoms at all! If anything, I look forward to their blooms even more because I get to share their magic with new friends and visitors. Watching Danny spin and dip LeaAnne (they’re incredible dancers!) under a fluttering canopy of blush blossoms at dawn is a scene I won’t soon forget.
I can’t help but feel exhilarated for the future when what seem like normal trees burst to life and signal that spring is indeed coming, even if it felt like winter would never end. What a metaphor for life 🙂
