“And most of all, never ever lose that big personality.” Kim wiped away a tear as she finished reading Ben’s letter. A tear that she had fought back as she read page after page of him professing his love, loyalty, and respect for her. That single tear was the perfect symbol of this exciting, overwhelming moment as they prepared to say their marriage vows and unite their lives forever.
What began as a friendship at the Delaware State Fair had grown and blossomed into the relationship that lead them down the aisle. I don’t think they could have guessed as early teenagers that everything would lead to this. Innocently becoming friends, deciding one New Years to admit their feelings and give dating a try, spending weekends visiting each other at college, moving together to Pittsburgh, and now this… getting married.
It was evident to me as I got to know their family and friends that Kim and Ben are known for their individual personalities. It was clear their friendships were deep and authentic, and family was everything in their lives. It was especially sweet that I overheard many people remarking how as great as they are individually, they are truly better together and bring out the best in each other. And that’s all we can hope for, right? To find someone who challenges you, balances you, and above all else, unconditionally loves you for exactly who you are.
